Welcome to the Portfolio update of June 2022. Crypto tanked further and ate another 50k CHF NW from us.
Personal update
May was ok. It started with a round birthday for my wife which we celebrated with her friends and my family. I personally would have loved to organize some bigger party but she explicitly wished for not making to much fuzz about it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Building that new Phala mining pool was a pain in the ass which took much longer than I hoped it would take. Surprises after surprises. We’ve eventually started a second pool with a hosting provider that thanks to the market crash lead to an unprofitable outcome. We’ve now switched to another provider which should make the calculation a bit more lucrative. But sadly we’ll be far from those 15k CHF/month extra away. Maybe 5k CHF will be doable, we’ll see.
At the end of May we’ve made a nice little trip to Milano which was however a bit pricey (train tickets for 3 and hotel in the city for 2 nights…). I believe that my family enjoyed it, at least my son did an awesome job walking very long distances w/o too much complaining.
Earlier this year I was invited to play Dungeons & Dragons with my co-workers, an activity that is now bi-weekly and I really enjoy. Very nerdy and kind of complex but really fun too. My character is a halfling rogue with some cool black dagger xD
Savings Rate: May 2022
Cash flow: May 2022
Total Income: 16’207 CHF (+318 CHF vs. April) – Regular salary plus oncall compensation plus 2’454 CHF in crypto from the validators. And 352 CHF worth of cashback & staking rewards from the crypto.com card.
Total Expenses: 8’897 CHF (+1’118 CHF vs. April) pretty much the Milano trip that made the difference to last month. However we’ve also had 900 CHF health costs for my wife & 1’467 CHF for the brunch of my wifes wedding and a bouquet of roses (310 CHF). Not accounted in here is a voucher over 6’000 CHF I’ve given my wife (she wanted a ring and/or the driving license).
Savings Rate: 45.10% (-6 vs. April) – With most of the upcoming holidays paid for I’m somewhat optimistic that 2 weeks of affordable food in Spain will help with Junes balance.
Net Worth: 1.00M CHF (-50k CHF vs. April) – Cryptos dumped hard in May. The current worth of my bonus makes me cry (around 50k CHF of an initial 170k CHF), I’m actively looking for new jobs to address that income problem. “Losing” 120k CHF for something unrelated to my actual performance feels very off…

I’ve finally sold that ARKK shit ETF. Hype investing doesn’t work, don’t do it… Here’s Ben Felix telling you why:
So out of the 45k USD invested in ARKK I’ve got some 15k USD out and bought 0.5 BTC with it. So if BTC ever reaches 90k USD I’m even…
Nice is that the rest of the portfolio technically made those 15k + 2.8k (well the monthly 5k USD VT purchase probably helped).
Crypto HODL Portfolio
Current HODL portfolio value: 234’603 CHF (~6.7 BTC / 121 KSM / 454 DOT / 92100 CRO / 11k+ PHA) (-53’171 CHF vs. April)
Bitcoin and the whole crypto market tanked very very badly due to the Luna/UST crash, melting my portfolio significantly.
Crypto Gambling Portfolio
Gains/Losses this month: -377 CHF
I’ll just post my Binance portfolio picture here:
I bought some Luna just for shits and giggles. Turned 100 USD into 25 USD 😀 Looks like the graphs are a bit broken.

That’s it for this month. Like last month let me know if you like the style and the ordering of topics.

Hello,
Nice work on your saving rate. I have a question, is your salary already discounted of taxes has I did not see it in your income/expense graphic?
Cheers
S
The monthly updates exclude taxes, however if you click the saving rate link in the top of the page you can see the expenses with & without taxes.
“my son did an awesome job walking very long distances w/o too much complaining”
I don’t know your son’s age, but with my 4yo we usually take her Trotti with on such trips, she’s much faster (easily keeps up with walking adult) & less energy used = less complaining compared to walking. Of course doesn’t work in all cities (too many people, crappy sidewalks). Also on a bad day it may result in you having to carry child and Trotti in the end lol. Just an idea. Cheers
Thanks for the suggestion. We thought about it, but since we travelled by train which was rather full in both directions we didn’t bring it. Around home we use it all the time. Also the sidewalks were rather narrow/crappy so probably wouldn’t have worked.
Is your Bonus actually being paid in Cryptos ? I was already thinking, if the good times regarding variable compensation is over.
Yep, bonus is 100% cryptos and the amount was fixed by the price of the starting date… Which happened to be almost all time high…
Bloody month for crypto 🙁 What is the average price at which you purchased BTC? Still overall gains?
Yeah my hodl stash has purchase price of 50 USD. The new 0.5 around 14000 USD.
Where is the rest of your Portfolio?
