Portfolio Update March 2022 – -19k CHF NW & Family back

Swiss coins

Welcome to the Portfolio update of March 2022. Tapped into a new 1k CHF income stream, 15k CHF taxes and other happenings of this month.

Personal update

February started off a bit hectic, the flight of my familiy got cancelled (already mentioned in the last update) and they eventually returned on February 5th instead of the 1st. Picked them up at the airport and honestly enjoyed playing with my son after such a long time apart. We built a new Lego Airplane together and did give the wifey some well deserved rest/time to unpack.

On January 17th all Corona measures got dropped from one day to another which immediately put my two best friend in bed with Corona one after another. They both fortunately had the rather mild Omnicron variant. After my family returned I’ve started going to the office more often again. Also pretty nice to interact with more people again. The office is great, free snacks and beverages plus beers on Fridays make it an enjoyable megacorp light experience.

I’ve already started in November with a little side project to build a Polkadot/Kusama Validator server which are pretty profitable now. I’ve even spun up a second machine to optimize profits from this service.

There was another provisional tax bill for 2021 which however according to the first estimates should be corrected down a bit. 15k CHF of somewhat unexpected expenses never the less. (They will not appear below as I exclude taxes from the calculations as they would be significantly lower when FIRE was reached).

Savings Rate: February 2022

Income / Expenses / Savings Rate for 2022

Cash flow: February 2022

Cash Flow Sankey Diagram / All numbers in CHF

Total Income: 13’488 CHF (+810 CHF vs. January) – Regular salary plus 100 CHF mobile phone supplement (before deductions) and the 1030 CHF from the validator service I’m running. I expect March to be rather fat as I’m getting the bonus from one of my jobs last year.

Total Expenses: 4’389 CHF (-2’431 CHF vs. January) (incl. Taxes expenses would be 19’885 CHF) – Uff, that tax bill hit hard otherwise I’m rather happy with the month. It was my birthday and I’ve invited a bunch of people for drinks for a total of 600 CHF (got 200 CHF back from a friend). 1’074 CHF in Groceries is also pretty nice. I bought a new keyboard (ZSA Moonlander) for 339 CHF. Writing this post with it right now. Some reimbursements from the Health insurance and income from Brokerage interest helped further with the expenses.

Savings Rate: 67.46% (+21.26% vs. January) – Yay, above the target savings rate of 65% even if that’s only thru ignoring the taxes…

Net Worth: 996k CHF (-19k CHF vs. January) – The conflict in Ukraine didn’t help the stocks nor the crypto portfolio. Neither did the tax bill.

Looks like my accounting somehow ate the Fundsmith mutual fund that I’ve added in January, I will look into the issue and it should show up in the portfolio next month. I’ve invested another 5’000 CHF in the stock market this month to profit from the discounts.

Crypto HODL Portfolio

Current HODL portfolio value: 231’925 CHF (~6.2 BTC / 50+ KSM) (+2’433 CHF vs. January)

The validators earn me a nice side income at this point. It’s also nice to see that crypto are apparently for some reason quicker at recovering that the stock market at this point.

Crypto Gambling Portfolio

Gains/Losses this month: -243 CHF

I’ll just post my Binance portfolio picture here:

Binance Crypto Gambling Portfolio (December 2021)

Still no relevant trades. I’ve decreased the portfolio a bit to get another 10 KSM for a second validator. Signals from the crypto community I’m in are pretty rare these days too.

P2P Portfolio

Removing the P2P Portfolio chart as I don’t feel it’s relevant anymore.

February Income from P2P Portfolio: 12.28 EUR

Noteworthy updates:

I liquidated a total of 121 EUR of my P2P Portfolio in February.
